Adam Schiff: “It wouldn’t be appropriate for the Democrats to get help from the Ukrainian government”

Adam Schiff, the ranking member of the Democratic party on the House Intel Committee, criticized his Democratic colleagues in D.C. on Sunday, saying that they’ve behaved “inappropriately” for having met Ukranian government diplomats to obtain dirt on Donald Trump.

Schiff made the comment at the peak of political upheaval in the country as various ongoing investigations and accusations have rocked the Trump administration, the latest one being the revelation of Trump Jr. meeting Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya in a similar effort to undermine Hillary Clinton using incriminating data during last year’s presidential bid.

“It wouldn’t be appropriate for the Democrats to get help from the Ukrainian government,” Schiff told ABC News’ Jonathan Karl. “It would be problematic to get any kind of support from a foreign government.”

Schiff was then asked regarding a report Politico wrote in January suggesting that the DNC tried to cooperate with the Ukranian consulate in an effort to find a link between Trump’s presidential campaign, his manager at the campaign Paul Manafort, and Russia.

As reported by hannity.com, and written by Politico:

A Ukrainian-American operative who was consulting for the Democratic National Committee met with top officials in the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington in an effort to expose ties between Trump top campaign aide Paul Manafort and Russia…the Ukrainian efforts had an impact in the race, helping to force Manafort’s resignation and advancing the narrative that Trump’s campaign was deeply connected to Ukraine’s foe to the east, Russia.

“Let me ask you,” ABC host Jonathan Karl began. “I understand Hillary Clinton lost and I understand this effort was not as elaborate as the Russian effort but was it acceptable, would it have been acceptable for Democrats to accept help from the Ukrainian government in this campaign?”

“No,” Schiff replied. “It wouldn’t be appropriate for the Democrats to accept help from the Ukrainian government.”

“If you are looking for an example of a campaign coordinating with a foreign country or a foreign source, look no further than the DNC, which actually coordinated opposition research with the Ukrainian Embassy,” said White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders on Monday, according to foxnews.com

“This is not an accusation. That is an on-the-record action that they took,” the Deputy Press Secretary added.

Sarah was referencing to the encounter of which Politico reported in January. Politico’s report mentioned an encounter between Hillary’s team and Ukranian officials who allegedly tried to tarnish Trump’s public image and equip the Clinton campaign with harmful research material on Trump and his campaign.
